Setting Up a Custom Domain

Custom domains are a Pro feature. Upgrade to Pro →
Connect your own domain (e.g., portfolio.janedoe.com) to your Prodfolio portfolio for a fully branded experience.

Prerequisites

  • A Pro plan subscription
  • A domain you own with access to DNS settings

Step-by-step setup

1. Enter your domain

  1. Open the portfolio builder
  2. Go to the Domain section
  3. Enter your custom domain (e.g., portfolio.janedoe.com)
  4. Click Verify

2. Configure DNS

Add a CNAME record in your domain registrar’s DNS settings:
TypeNameValue
CNAMEportfolio (or your subdomain)Provided by Prodfolio
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, though most complete within a few hours.

3. Verify

Return to Prodfolio and click Verify again. Once DNS has propagated, your domain status will change to Active.

Domain status

  • Pending — DNS not yet verified
  • Active — Domain is connected and working
  • Error — Something went wrong (check your DNS settings)

Troubleshooting

  • Domain still showing “Pending”? DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours. Try again later.
  • Error status? Double-check that your CNAME record matches exactly what Prodfolio provided.
  • Using a root domain (no subdomain)? Some registrars require an ALIAS or ANAME record instead of CNAME for root domains.

Known limitations

Inline editing of section titles and subtitles is not available on custom domains. Your Prodfolio login session doesn’t carry over to external domains, so the edit controls won’t appear.
Workaround: Edit your titles and subtitles on your Prodfolio-hosted portfolio before setting up your custom domain — changes carry over automatically. Or contact support@prodfolio.io and we’ll update them for you. Learn more about customizing section titles and subtitles → More troubleshooting →
